Rule of Thirds Project: photography and composition

The rule of thirds (compositional rule used in photography and design) states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines. Important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections. The rule of thirds is a very useful technique in photography and design. While I was out shooting for this project, the thought of how I could apply this technique to my photos was constantly on my mind. In the first photo, the focus point is right hand honey bee. I think that the eye is naturally drawn to the honey bee near the flower because the horizontal and vertical lines intersect there. The focus point in the second photo is the center of the right hand flower. The eye is naturally drawn to the large yellow flower because the vertical and horizontal lines intersect there. The focus point for the third photo is at the green knob on the right side. The fire hydrant's placement aligns with the right vertical line. The focus point of the last picture is at the brown bird. I think that this is the focus point because its where the intersection of lines is.
